What’s
New in DesignSpace 7.1 and Workbench 7.1, based products?
7.1 Overview
To create a common impression for all ANSYS products within this new
environment, ANSYS has made a few name changes. DesignSpace and ANSYS
Workbench simulation are now referred to as "DesignSimulation"
and the Analysis Geometry Processor (AGP) is now referred to as the
"DesignModeler".
General Workbench 7.1
news:
Name changes
The simulation functionality within ANSYS Workbench (DesignSpace or ANSYS)
is now referred to as Design Simulation. The Analysis Geometric Processor
(AGP) is now named DesignModeler.
ANSYS Workbench project page
With the new version, ANSYS introduces
a totaly new architecture for the handling of analysis projects. This new
project handler is free of charge and included for every DesignSpace och
ANSYS Workbench license. The architecture helps the user to keep track of
all involved objects (geometry, design analysis and parametric studies).
An intuitive start page is now displayed that is intended as a management
tool for creating or editing projects.
Coordinate System Transfers
DesignSimulation can now import user defined coordinate systems from
DesignModeler and SolidWorks.
CATIA V5
The CATIA V5 geometry interface now supports both CATIA V5 parts
(.CATPart) as well as assemblies (.CATProduct). Supported CATIA V5
versions are r2 to r10.
IGES support
Workbench now support IGES. Supported versions are currently 4.0, 5.2 and
5.2.
Consept
Modeling for beams and shells
Another big news for the 7.1 release is the support of Concept Modeling.
This supports the modeling and analysis of Beam- and Surface (Shell)
models. To be able to perform conceptual studies, you need a DesignModeler
and any license of DesignSpace or ANSYS.
DesignSimulation news:
Reaction moments
Reaction moments are now reported in the detail view as a support object.
Like reaction forces, reaction moments can be parameterized.
Reaction Heat on Convection
Reaction heats are now reported in the detail view of any convection
loads.
Report Setup Page
A report setup page now appears when users clicks the report preview tab.
Here preferences can be set for report viewing. Users can now select which
enviroments are to be included in the report.
Toolbar Button for Box Select
A new drop-down button on the Graphics Toolbar is available for selecting
items (vertices, edges, etc.) through single selection, or through box
selecting.
Miscellaneous Legend Enhancements at 7.1
The following legend enhancements are included in this release:
- Right-clicking on the legend displays a menu for resetting to the
default values.
- User legend settings are retained when a figure is dragged to another
result object.
- Double-clicking a color in the legend allows the color to be changed.
- A color now appears that represents beyond the result maximum value.
- Adding new results and re-solving does not reset legends in figures.
Material Data Transfer at 7.1
Material data sets in Autodesk Inventor, Pro/ENGINEER, and Unigraphics can
now be imported into Design Simulation. Imported material data is
isotropic and can include Young's modulus, Poisson ratio, mass density,
specific heat, thermal conductivity, and thermal expansion coefficient
Remote Force Load at 7.1
A remote force load is now available, equivalent to a force applied on a
surface with the origin of the force being remote to the model.
Vector Result Displays at 7.1
Vector result displays are now available for result plots of principal
stresses and strains, deformation and heat flux. These plots help depict
the directions that experience the greatest amount of normal stress or
strain, deformation, or heat flux at any point in the body in response to
the loading condition.
DesignModeler (Formerly AGP) news:
Concept Modeling and Simulation at 7.1
To allow for concept modeling, five new features have been introduced:
Lines From Points, Lines From Sketches, Lines From Edges, Split Line Body,
and Surfaces From Lines.
Cross Sections at 7.1
When concept modeling, you can apply 11 different attributes to line
bodies, including: Rectangular, Circular, Circular Tube, Channel Section,
I Section, Z Section, L Section, T Section, Hat Section, Rectangular Tube,
and User Integrated.
Open Profile Operations at 7.1
Open profiles (i.e., chains of sketch edges that are not closed) are now
supported for all of the basic 3D features: Extrude, Revolve, Skin/Loft,
and Sweep. When using open profiles, you should set the As Thin/Surface?
option to "Yes". You can then define a thickness to create thin
solids or leave the thickness as zero to create surfaces.
Body Operations: Mirror, Move, Copy, Delete,
Scale, Cut Material, Slice Material, Imprint Faces at 7.1
The new Body Operation Feature is available via the Modify menu. It allows
you to manipulate bodies. The feature has up to eight different options
for the Type of body operation, although not all of them will be available
at all times: Mirror, Move, Copy, Delete, Scale, Cut Material, Slice
Material, and Imprint Faces. Any type of body can be used with Body
Operation, regardless of whether it is active or frozen
Feature Insertion at 7.1
In DesignModeler 7.1, you can now insert features into the middle of the
feature tree.
Target Bodies at 7.1
You can now specify which bodies are operated on during the Cut, Imprint,
Slice Material, and Slice by Plane operations. This gives you more
flexibility when working with models consisting of multiple bodies.
Auto-Save and Restore File at 7.1
DesignModeler 7.1 will automatically save backup files (so-called
“auto-save” files) of the model, after a specified number of Generate
clicks. A list of these backup files will then be available for you to
resume from the File->Restore Auto-save File menu.
Part Grouping at 7.1
DesignModeler 7.1 can group bodies into parts using the Form New Part
tool. These parts are transferred to DesignSimulation as parts consisting
of multiple bodies with shared topology.
